The Ishpeming Lions Club Provides Local Food For Local Families

On December 12th, the Ishpeming Lions Club generously provided free groceries to 30 community members in need, at the St. Vincent De Paul food pantry in Ishpeming. As reported in a TV6 interview, the Ishpeming Lions Club donated $1,000 worth of fresh produce, including spinach sourced locally from the Partridge Creek Intergenerational Farm’s hoophouse in Ishpeming.

Partridge Creek Farm sincerely thanks the Ishpeming Lions Club for their generous donation, which provided essential groceries and some fresh, locally grown produce from PCF to 30 local families. Their support has made a meaningful difference in our community!

Feeding Ishpeming: The Lions Mission for Food Security

This year, the Ishpeming Lions Club, as stated by Secretary Dan Perkins, prioritized addressing food security in Ishpeming as the focus of its projects and donations. All funds raised by the Lions during public events are returned to the community.

Partnering with Partridge Creek Farm is a natural fit for this mission to bring food security to Ishpeming, given PCF’s commitment to cultivating fresh, locally-grown produce for the Ishpeming community, where 18.3% of the population faces poverty and food insecurity without access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.

Partridge Creek Farm’s Extended Growing Season

The produce used for grocery donations by the Ishpeming Lions Club was made possible thanks to the extended growing season provided by our hoophouse at the community farm, which allows us to cultivate fresh produce even into the winter months. This marks the first growing season that Partridge Creek Farm is able to grow food in their hoophouse.
